I have had an accident while the car seat, without child, was fitted. Should the car seat be replaced?
This depends on a lot of factors and there is no simple answer to this. The load on an empty car seat is, of course, less. If it is a minor accident, the seat may not be damaged. We can only recommend that you contact your retailer and explain clearly at what speed the accident took place and whether the car was hit from the front, side or the rear. In case of a frontal collision at more than 20 km/h with an empty seat, we recommend that you replace both the seat and the car seat belt. Both the seat and seat belt may be damaged by invisible damage or stretching and therefore are no longer safe. It is almost impossible to determine the effect of the accident on the safety of the car seat. This would only be clear in a second accident and this is exactly what we want to prevent. If you are in any doubt at all, we recommend that you replace the seat after an accident and destroy the old one. In most cases your car insurance will reimburse the damage.
