An 8-year old child requires 800 mg of calcium daily, from a combination of food, milk and supplements if necessary. Drinking three glasses of milk each day would provide that amount. Adults require 1000-1500 mg of calcium per day. For instance, to stay healthy and continue to support strong bones, a 45-year old woman would need 1000 mg of calcium daily - while a 65-year old woman would need to increase that to 1500 mg on a daily basis.
